How to Style :: Punk Fashion

Hi all!

As most of you may know this past Monday was the Met Gala, a.k.a the Oscars of the fashion industry with a lot more flair and risk taking when it comes to the red carpet looks, because it's the fashion industry and that's what we do ;)

Rather than show you a handful of pictures of what the celebs wore and go over who I believed was best/worst dressed (I'll leave that to Jena over on ChiCityFashion, she's always on point when reviewing red carpet looks), I thought I'd have a little fun with the theme of the night Punk: From Chaos to Couture, and create some punk rock inspired looks. I don't have anything remotely punk in my closet, so I put together a few collages of how I would rock punk fashion.

I hope you enjoy as I had a lot of fun creating a character for myself and putting these looks together :D

I'm actually really into this look and could see myself wearing everything except for the creepers, I just can't get into them. There are few people who can completely rock creepers and I am definitely not one of them. However, I think they totally make this look and if I were to see a girl walking down the street in this ensemble I would think that chick was B.A. and would want to be her friend so she can pass me some of her cool street cred, haha!

You know I had to style a look with some Doc's and I couldn't say no to these bubble gum pink studded pair. I like how the white eyelet dress and pink Dr. Martens make for a more feminine look while the added spikes, studs, skulls, and denim moto vest make her super edgy. Don't get me started on that hair, so fierce.

This outfit is something I would totally wear if I were going to an indie rock concert. I'm obsessed with the Zara buckle boots and the Maison Scotch tie dye jeans give great depth and texture to the overall look.

What's In My Bag :: Colorado Skiing

Hi all! Happy Monday! This is going to be short and sweet as DCT and I are doing some last minute packing as I type, we'll be on our way to Colorado in t-minus 2 hours! We're super excited as neither of us have any idea what to expect (besides the obvious snow and mountains). The weather forecasts are pretty positive as well, sun & shine the entire time we're there, we couldn't ask for more :)

I'm not entirely sure how much blogging will be done this week, but I'll try and keep you all updated as much as I can. Before I sign off though, I wanted to share with you all what's being tossed in my bag for a week in the mountains. It consists of easy, layer-able basics in cozy neutrals and pops of color for a "sporty-chic mountain girl" look......yeah? no? I don't know....

'Rock the Vote' in These Election-Themed Outfits

It's finally here. All the campaigning and debating has finally lead up to this point - Election Day. Show a little patriotism at work with this red, white, and blue ensemble. I love the delicate polka dot blouse (only $25 at Target!) paired with a tote in the must have pop of color for election day - red! Top it off with a classic, neutral pea coat and don't shy away from those white jeans! Yes, it's after Labor Day but rules of fashion were meant to be broken ;]

A casual day spent at the polls requires a comfy sweater dress layered with a cropped denim jacket and Americana themed scarf. Complete the look with a pair of chunky booties and knee high socks to be totally cozy-chic and voter ready.

This last look is all about keeping it casual and fun. Last election I watched the results while enjoying election-themed jello shots at a local pizzeria with close friends, and while this election may not be as exciting for me, you can still be prepared to party rock with a pair of faux leather pants and a sharp red blazer. Keep the look easy with an american flag tee and a fresh pair of Chucks, or swap in some sassy heels if you're really going out on the town.

Project Runway to Realway, Episode 1

Hi everyone! Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend so far! So one of my favorite shows, Project Runway, is back on the air for it's 10th season! Their season premiere was this past Thursday, with their usual opening challenge of creating a look (which actually ended up being two looks) that shows who you are as a designer. They then showed their looks on the runway in the middle of Times Square in front of thousands of Project Runway fans and the judges. There were some definite hits, misses and a few wtf's? But all in all I thought it was an enjoyable season premiere, there seems to be some pretty interesting personalities so there should be lots of fun and crazy drama this season.

With the return of Project Runway, I decided to try a new post series on KATNP where I take the top 3 designs from each week and create a real life outfit! Hence, Project Runway to Realway :] So let's get started with Episode 1!

Our first look is from Melissa, who is all about the color black and though, you all know, I'm all about some bright and bold colors, this was probably my favorite look from this episode. It's super sexy, and though it is all black there are still elements, such as the structured shoulder and the asymmetrical hem, that keep it interesting. To be honest though, if I were to wear this I'd still have to add some sort of color elsewhere, either in a piece of jewelry or a nice bold lip, I wouldn't be able to help myself, haha! :]

Ven's design honestly wasn't my favorite, I felt it was a little too conservative. However, I will admit his handiwork in the top is amazing and I love the white blazer, it's just something about the pants that put me off. Another way you can re-create this look is by keeping the white blazer and pink top, but swapping the pants for a pair of light-wash, high-waist, wide-leg jeans. Then add some platform wedges for a look that's totally 70's chic!

And the winner from Episode 1, Christopher! Loved this dress and how it just flowed behind the model when she walked. Get the same effect with a nice dipped hem maxi skirt and play around with the accessories, I love how the pointed gold arrow earrings give this look a little more edge.
