Project Runway to Realway, Episode 2 - Candy Couture

Hi everyone! Welcome to the second edition of Project Runway to Realway! This past episode introduced the famous unconventional challenge, which I was surprised to see them do so early in the season. For this challenge the designers were asked to create a look using candy from Dylan's Candy Bar.

I thought the initial ideas from most of the designers were very interesting and I was excited to see how they would turn out. Some of them were a bit disappointing, but some definitely had a wow factor. So lets get to it, episode 2's top three designs and how you can recreate these sickeningly sweet looks, candy not required.
Project Runway Season 10, Ep. 2 - Ven Budhu
Ven, the winner of the unconventional challenge, created his look by crushing different colors of rock candy and using black licorice to create a stained glass effect. Though I'm not the biggest fan of Ven's attitude (is it just me or does he seem really arrogant?), this is a pretty sweet dress. Recreate it by using the same pastel color pallet with black accents.
Project Runway Season 10, Ep 2 - Gunnar Deatherage
Gunnar created his look using black and pina colada licorice and the wrappings of little chocolates on the peplum to create a Chanel-esque design. I had a really hard time trying to recreate this one, haha! I was trying to focus on finding a big checkered print like the one Gunnar created, but it just was not happening, lol, so I went with this pretty little gingham print instead. On another note, can someone explain to me why Gunnar and Chris hate each other so much? Part of me thinks it's just for the show and ratings cause it seems that's all they talk about in the workroom, can people really dislike each other that much upon just meeting?
Project Runway Season 10, Ep 2 - Sonjia Williams
Last, but certainly not least, Sonjia! I loved this look and personally think she should've won this challenge as she used a variety of candies and created something beautiful and interesting (I'm, again, just not a big fan of Ven). I love the different shades of blue and how she placed the gummy sharks. As Nina Garcia mentioned, everything looks impeccably made, this was definitely Candy Couture.

And there you have Episode 2! Check out the rest of the designs here. I hope everyone had a great weekend! Thanks for reading and Happy Monday!

Project Runway to Realway, Episode 1

Hi everyone! Hope you all are having a fabulous weekend so far! So one of my favorite shows, Project Runway, is back on the air for it's 10th season! Their season premiere was this past Thursday, with their usual opening challenge of creating a look (which actually ended up being two looks) that shows who you are as a designer. They then showed their looks on the runway in the middle of Times Square in front of thousands of Project Runway fans and the judges. There were some definite hits, misses and a few wtf's? But all in all I thought it was an enjoyable season premiere, there seems to be some pretty interesting personalities so there should be lots of fun and crazy drama this season.

With the return of Project Runway, I decided to try a new post series on KATNP where I take the top 3 designs from each week and create a real life outfit! Hence, Project Runway to Realway :] So let's get started with Episode 1!

Project Runway Season 10, Ep 1. - Melissa Fleis

Our first look is from Melissa, who is all about the color black and though, you all know, I'm all about some bright and bold colors, this was probably my favorite look from this episode. It's super sexy, and though it is all black there are still elements, such as the structured shoulder and the asymmetrical hem, that keep it interesting. To be honest though, if I were to wear this I'd still have to add some sort of color elsewhere, either in a piece of jewelry or a nice bold lip, I wouldn't be able to help myself, haha! :]

Project Runway Season 10, Ep. 1 - Ven Budhu

Ven's design honestly wasn't my favorite, I felt it was a little too conservative. However, I will admit his handiwork in the top is amazing and I love the white blazer, it's just something about the pants that put me off. Another way you can re-create this look is by keeping the white blazer and pink top, but swapping the pants for a pair of light-wash, high-waist, wide-leg jeans. Then add some platform wedges for a look that's totally 70's chic!

Project Runway Season 10, Ep. 1 - Christopher Palu

And the winner from Episode 1, Christopher! Loved this dress and how it just flowed behind the model when she walked. Get the same effect with a nice dipped hem maxi skirt and play around with the accessories, I love how the pointed gold arrow earrings give this look a little more edge.

And there you have Episode 1! Stay tuned for the rest of the season, it should get very interesting :] Have a fantastic Saturday!
