Labor Day Whites!

Labor Day weekend is fast approaching, which means summer is steadily coming to an end. We've all heard the age-old style rule of not wearing white after Labor Day, but who really follows the rules anymore, especially when it comes to fashion :)

Whether you're spending your weekend at the beach, a bbq, or shopping for some sweet deals, here are 3 outfits showcasing summer whites that you can wear now, as well as how you can take your whites into the Fall. Enjoy!

Getting Kinky: Pin Up

Hi there! I've been playing around with my hair a lot lately, now that I have a little more length it's easier to try different looks. Though I'm still not at the length I'd like to be, I do enjoy the challenge of trying to figure out how to recreate a certain style with my current length. Enter my version of a pin up style....

This was a very quick and simple style, that'll I'll probably be using a lot more often now that I figured out how to create it. All I did was section off the front portion of my hair, and then using an Ouchless stretch headband I wrapped it around the back portion of my hair. Then I smoothed out the back of my hair by pushing the headband up till it just reached the ends of my curls to create the look of my hair being pinned. Afterwards, I simply fluffed to give it a bit more volume, et voila! It literally took me all of 5 minutes and it's so easy to switch it up with different hair accessories.

If y'all are interested in a more detailed step-by-step (with more pictures or even....a video!) tutorial let me know. In the mean time, here are a couple of tutorials I found while browsing YouTube that I would love to try once my hair gets just a little longer. Follow the links below and enjoy, let me know if you try to recreate some of the styles. Hope everyone has a fantastic Tuesday!

Tuto Pin Up - Joyce Harmonie (It's in French, but I think it's still pretty easy to understand how she created the look, also love her nails! Ils sont beux!)

Retro Updo - Backsyncfan (She is so cute! Definitely check out her YouTube channel for more great tutorials)

Easy To Do Hairstyle inspired by Pin Up Girls - The Pinup Noire (She is the natural hair pin up guru, I think this one is simple enough for beginners (like me!), but check out her channel for more advanced styles)

That's all folks! :)

Outfitted: Rainy Days

I personally believe there is nothing better than a rainy day spent inside laying around the apartment. Just give me a good book/movie, a comfy sweater, a cup of tea and I'm set for the entire day. And that was pretty much my Sunday, which felt great as I haven't had a purely lazy day in a long time and it just made it better that it was raining because it really made me not want to do anything :)

I (obviously) did get around to taking a few shots of my outfit during the brief moment I did leave the house. This is standard rainy day gear for me - cropped pants, flats, and a casual top. Can you believe that I've lived in Chicago for almost 3 years, Charleston for 6 years and I have never invested in a pair of rain boots. It's not that I don't like them, I just never felt the need for them. Which is weird seeing as Charleston gets tons of rain all year long and Chicago's winter is no walk in the park. When I see girls walking around in them I always think, 'I should get rain boots this year', but eventually I forget that thought and end up buying items that are much more practical like 5-inch heeled booties :)

But maybe this year will be the year! I'll keep everyone posted ;) Hope you all had a great weekend, it's going to be a busy busy week but then it'll be Europe time! And with that I'll leave you with this little gem to start your week off right :)

HAPPY MONDAY!

Seeing Spots.

Hi there!

I don't know about everyone else, but I've been seeing polka dots everywhere as we transition into Fall and I'm already seeing them being a popular print for the season. I did a little searching through my closet and found I don't have a single item with polka dots on it (expect for a blazer that has dots on the inner lining), and when I think about it, I've never been a big polka dot print kind of gal (if you want to talk stripes, half the items in my closet have some sort of stripe on them, haha!). I've always found polka dots to be very ladylike print, and I am far from being ladylike, lol ;) But I'm thinking this is the perfect time to invest in a couple of dotted pieces. I'm thinking a pair of shoes, like these adorable Gap loafers or sweet Kate Spade NY pumps, and maybe a pair of pants, like this pair of denim from Paige. They're all totes adorbs ;)

Outfitted: Boyfriend

Hello hello! Look at me, two posts in a row, I'm doing good so far this week, haha! I don't know if any of you noticed in my last 'My Offline Life' post, but I finally gave in and bought myself a new pair of glasses. My last pair were super old, the prescription completely out of date (I've been blind for the past 3 years of my life, lol), and I didn't really like how they looked on me anymore. You're probably wondering why I don't just do the whole contact thing (or not, could be I just like to assume people think about me, haha), I do have contacts I just tend to go through phases where I'll either wear contacts or my glasses all the time. And right now I'm in my nerdy glasses phase :)

I'm also getting back into wearing boyfriend jeans again, you've seen them here before, and after that they kind of were forgotten about as it got too gosh darn hot to wear any sort of denim. But the temperature is beginning to cool off again, which means you may be seeing me rocking the boyfriend jean look a bit more.

Boyfriend jeans, like any denim, are super versatile but I think add a little more character to an outfit than a basic skinny jean would. Dress them down with some cute flats, make it a casual work day with some sweet wedges (just like me!), or take them out on the town with some killer heels.

How do you wear your boyfriend jeans?

In The Mood For...Capes

In The Mood For...Capes
(1. 1955 Christian Dior Haute Couture Mocha Wool Cape 2. Folk Herringbone Cape 3. Suno Mohair Wool Cape)

Hi everyone! Long time no see! I feel I've totally been off my blogging game, with crazy long work hours, family visits, and just general things that come up in life, I've completely been thrown off my blog schedule. I'll slowly be working my way back into the swing of things, cause I know y'all miss me, right? Haha *wink*.

Well it's that time. I'm officially ready for Fall to be here, I made my first boot purchase of the season the other day as well as invested in a new leather jacket and gosh darn-it I want to wear them now. I know I shouldn't be rushing it, but this summer has been so H-O-T! I'm not saying I want to see snowflakes falling out my window, but a nice comfortable drop in the temperature would be nice.

While I wait for the cooler days ahead, I've started making a mental list of my must-have items for this coming Fall/Winter, and, as you may of guessed, one of those items is a cape! A perfect layering piece, that looks just as chic over a chunky knit, denim, and boots as over a sassy dress and heels. They're a great alternative to a basic pea coat and I have a feeling we'll be seeing them all over this season.

What say you readers? Do you like the idea of a cape? How would you wear one? Let me know, I love hearing your ideas!

My Offline Life: Family Visits

Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts this week, as I mentioned in my last one I had family come visit and all my time was spent showing them around town. The time went by way too fast, but it was great fun as well as a little exhausting, I'm in need of a vacation to recover from my vacation, haha! However it's back to the grind today, and I'll slowly begin to tick off the days to our European adventure (28 days and counting!).

I didn't want to leave you all completely hanging for the week, so I rounded up some photos of my mini staycation with part of the fam. We toured all around Chicago, from the aquarium, to the zoo, back to The Bean, there was a lot packed into just 3 days. So you can guess why I'm so tired, but I have to admit taking everyone around to all these places that I never visit unless someone is in town, really made me appreciate the city and reminded me why I love Chicago. I hope everyone has a great rest of the week and weekend, I'm not planning on doing much of anything expect be a bum, haha! Enjoy the photos!

The baby bro's first visit to Chicago!

We're a four-eyed bunch.

Jellies!

Loved this little guy, just hanging out staring at people staring at him, haha!

<3 my mama!

Obligatory Bean photo op. (he's so excited, can you tell?)

So glad they came!
